We receive a lot of questions from readers about the easiest remote control to use with a Canon 450 or Rebel XSi camera. Below is a quick review of probably the cheapest, most reliable and popular remote available.
Why Use a Remote on a Canon 450d?
Naturally you’ll need a remote if you want to take a self portrait or family group shot however as you get more serious about your photography there will be many other situations where a remote will be useful, if not essential.
When you use a tripod (either in a studio, for macro shots or for landscapes) a remote will allow you to fire the cameras shutter without moving the camera’s body when you press the shutter release button. This is especially useful when taking photos with slow shutter speeds, such as landscapes at sunset, where even the slightest movement of the camera can cause camera shake and lead to unsharp images.
What are the 450d remote control options?
Well, essentially you have two options – either an infa red remote or a cable release mechanism. Naturally with a cable release you will not be able to move too far from the camera when shooting.
For an extra few dollars we would recommend buying an infa red remote such as Canon’s RC-5 remote control. The RC 5 remote allows you to fire the 450d’s shutter from as far away as 16 feet (4.9m), making it equally useful for family portraits or serious studio work.
These units are tiny in size so take up very little room in you camera bag while offering you an added dimension of flexibility to your shooting. A must for any photographer.
